The resale housing sales this May are higher than this time last year. In May 2009 Greater Toronto Realtor’s reported 9,589 sales, up almost two percent from May 2008 – this is the first annual increase since December 2007.

“The resale housing market in the GTA has remained reslient in the face of challenging times globally” according to TREB President Maureen O’neill. ” Many home buyers  have been taking advantage of extremely low mortgage rates”.

The Average price for May transactions was $395,609 – down less than one per cent compared to the same month last year. The average resale home price has moved in line with last year’s level because of lighter market conditions expericenced this Spring.

“Home sales have increased strongly relative to new listings, bolstering home prices,” stated Jasen Mercer TREB’s Senior Manager of Market Analysis.

The Government of Canada is in the Renovation Credit business again and this is good news for you. As of Jan 27/09 when any canadian upgrades there home to be more energy efficient through renovation you can be eligible to recieve up to $1350 in tax relief.

By making your home more energy efficient you will be adding value and setting it apart from the crowd homes. A more efficient home will save money for you and be a great selling/buying point.  This will make a sale easier when you wish to sell now is the time to invest in your home!

Water our life sustaining resource

With the world including Canada experiencing higher costs and in some cases runnging out of fresh water the idea of catching and reusing our waste water is becoming more appealing.  The capture of  Rain and Grey Waste water can be accomplished simply by using Rain Barrels or by installing a more elaborate holding tank system within your home.

The bath, laundry and sink Grey Water is captured and filtered for  reuse  in gardens and for other chores such as flushing toilets and the laundry. A savings of 400 litres or 87.7 gallons of fresh water can be saved each day by using Grey water.

An addition of  Grey or Rain Barrel water system will add value to your home  and set is apart from the crowd with the current Real Estate Market additional features are desired. The water issue will come into its own in the next decade and we will go from a water wasting country to a water conserving one like any movement unfortunately there will have to be a crises first. Will you be ahead of the crowd.
